I got to sleep an extra hour today.  We have parent conferences today to hand out report cards from ten o'clock until six o'clock.  My kids are getting to enjoy the day off and are sleeping late this morning.  We are finally starting to get some nice fall weather here.  It is 48 degrees outside this morning.  I just love fall weather!  I also love all of the fall decorations I have been seeing at school.  I will try to go around and take some pictures today and post them tomorrow.

Today I wanted to share a freebie with you.   I made this quick game to review where, were, and we're with a few of my kids.  I threw in was, too.  This game is pretty much self explanatory.  I taped the sentence strips to my filing cabinet and put magnets on the pumpkins.  You could also use a pocket chart or just lay them on the floor or table.  I hope someone else can use it.  I hope you have a great day!

This freebie can be found here in my TPT store.

Monday Made-It

Today I am linking up with 4th Grade Frolics for a Monday Made It - October.

My first Monday Made It, I didn't make my self.  I downloaded for free, printed, cut, laminated, cut, applied magnets to back, and put on my board as a center.

This can be found in Make Take Teach's TPT store for free.  If you download it, please be sure to leave feedback.  This was perfect practice for some of my dyslexic kids that are having trouble with consonant digraphs.

My Monday Made it #2
I created this Magnetic Letter R-Controlled Vowel Task Card set and blogged about it here.  It can be found in my TPT store here.  I have some dyslexic kids that were also having trouble with r-controlled vowels.

This is my precious niece.  She is also dyslexic, so I work with her after school.
You get two sets in the download.  One set has QR codes for self-check.  The other set does not contain QR codes codes.

My third Monday Made It was totally copied from another blog.  I can't remember where I saw it.  If you know the source of this activity, please leave me a comment so I can give credit where credit is due.  I took the back side of my cookie sheets and added masking tape.  I wrote word families on the tape.  The students had lots of fun today making real words and nonsense words with these.

My last Monday Made It is something that I created for my dyslexic students also.  These sentences contain lots of short vowel words and words with blends and digraphs.  Some of them were having trouble with the words were, we're, and where.  I made this freebie for them and plan to blog about it on Thursday.  You will be able to grab it in my store then.  Make sure to follow my TPT store to receive updates when I add new freebies and items for sale.

Please leave feedback.  I encourage constructive criticism.  I believe we can all learn from each other.  I love reading lots of blogs and sharing great ideas.

Magnetic Letter R-Controlled Vowel Task Cards

Happy Sunday!  I only have a few minutes to tell you quickly about a new product that I have added to my TPT store.

I created these for my dyslexic students who are having trouble with the /er/ sound.  While I was creating I went ahead and made task cards for /er/, /ar/, and /or/.

I included a set with QR codes for self-checking and a set without QR codes.

You can click on any of the pictures above to find them in my TPT store.  I am off to take some chocolate chip cookies out of the oven and spend time with my son.

Welcome to my blog......

Hello ....  is anybody reading out there???  Well if you happen to find this little blog of mine, welcome.  I have been wanting to start this new blog for quite some time now.  Life had other plans though.  My kids seem to keep me very busy.  I feel like I finally have my head above water this year now.

We are out on Fall Break.  This basically means a 4-day weekend for me.  (Smiling)

I work with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders.  I mainly work on reading.  I have discovered that if children are low in reading and math, usually reading is the problem in math.

Today I want to share with you what I have been doing with my 2nd graders so far this year.

I get my students for 50 minutes a day.  We call this time our "Power Hour".  During Power Hour the kids with IEPs are pulled for interventions with the Special Education teachers, intervention kids go to interventions, gifted kids go to the gifted teacher, and the remaining students receive enrichment instruction with the classroom teacher.  I have 2 groups of each grade 2-4.

All of my students work on Raz-Kids except for a few.  If you have never heard of Raz-Kids, you need to check it out.  My kids love it, and they are all showing improvement in their fluency.

While the kids are working on the computers with my assistant, I pull small groups to my table.  My assistant pulls each kid to work on sight word flashcards during this time also.

At my table, I have been working on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.  I do this in several ways.

I bought this book from Carson Delosa.  You can see it here.  This is an ebook that I downloaded and printed out.  I have been doing it a little different than the way the book says to do it.  We use magnetic letters on cookie sheets.  You can look inside the book on the previous link to see a sample lesson.  I LOVE this book.  My 2nd graders are all  lacking in phonemic awareness and phonics.  This book is a great way to get them to really think about manipulating the letters and make words.

Next, we work on a poem of the week.  I get my poems from this book.

This book of poems is wonderful.  With every poem you get an activity for phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.   We only spend about 5-7 minutes on the poem each day.

After working on the poem of the work, we read a weekly fluency passage.  I have been using this product from Common Core and So Much More.

Next we work on a comprehension passage each day.  I have two books that I like to use for this.

I have both of these books for grades 2-4, and I use them with all of my students.

Hope you have enjoyed a peek at what has been happening in my room with my 2nd graders.  I will share more on my third graders next week.

I will also start getting six of my second graders for an extra hour during their reading instruction time to work on reading skills for dyslexic students.  I can't wait to share with you what I am doing with my dyslexic kids.  It is so exciting to see kids go from hating to read to loving to read.  That is why I love my job.

What do you do for interventions????  I love to get new ideas!
